Philosophy begins in wonder.

The Philosophy Club is a group of mostly undergraduates, but also graduate students who meet for various philosophically-related activities. Many attendees are philosophy majors or minors, but non-philosophy students are very welcome as well.

We discuss philosophically interesting issues in a pretty informal way, usually accompanied by pizza and pop. Often our discussion will be centred around a particular reading or film. Recent works discussed include Thomas Nagel's What is it Like to be a Bat?, Bertrand Russell's The Sex Taboo, and Michael Huemer's America's Unjust Drug War. We are very much a member-directed group, so anyone who is interested in suggesting a particular reading, film, or activity for the group is encouraged to do so.

We coordinate with Dr Don Callen's Philosophy Movie Night, which also meets Thursday evenings, 8:00 pm in 301Shatzel Hall, usually every second or third week. Philosophy Club members often attend these meetings. Dr Callen specializes in continental philosophy and has a keen interest in film. The films he chooses to show are a pretty eclectic bunch, from the Coen Brothers to classics like Shanghai Express. After the film, we usually stay behind to share ideas about it.
